What Is Speech and Language Therapy?
Speech and language therapy helps children develop essential communication skills, whether they are verbal, non-verbal. At Jumpstart Center, therapy is always personalized to match each child’s current abilities, needs, and learning style.
Our Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) use evidence-based techniques to support speech clarity, language comprehension and expression, social communication, and oral-motor skills. We also offer specialized services for children facing feeding challenges, speech-motor planning issues, or difficulties related to literacy.

What Does Speech Therapy Involve?
- Initial Screening & Goal Setting: Your child’s linguistic, speech, and communication skills are evaluated to design a tailored therapy plan.
- Language Intervention Activities: Through structured play, conversation, and use of books, visuals, and games, the therapist helps develop vocabulary, sentence building, grammar, and comprehension.
- Articulation & Sound Production: Therapists model and practice sound production, supporting clear pronunciation through guided techniques and play-based practice.
- Oral-Motor Therapy: Activities may include facial massage or targeted mouth, lip, and jaw exercises to support speech clarity and feeding skills.
- PROMPT Therapy: A tactile-kinesthetic method used to guide oral muscle movement for speech development—ideal for motor planning challenges.
- SOS Approach to Feeding: A sensory-based feeding program for children with limited diets or aversions, helping them expand their food range at their own pace.
- Natural Language Acquisition (NLA): A developmental approach for children who use echolalia or scripts, supporting them in progressing to meaningful, original language.
- Literacy Support: Therapy sessions may also target early reading, comprehension, phonemic awareness, spelling, and writing difficulties often associated with language delays or dyslexia.

What Are Dyslexia Support Sessions?
Jumpstart Center offers specialized dyslexia support sessions led by a certified Speech-Language Pathologist with advanced training in literacy and language-based learning difficulties.
These sessions are designed for children who struggle with reading, spelling, and comprehension despite having typical intelligence and schooling. Using a kinesthetic, evidence-based approach, our SLPs incorporate movement, hands-on activities, and structured literacy techniques to strengthen phonological awareness, decoding skills, and reading fluency.
This engaging, whole-child approach is ideal for children with a dyslexia diagnosis or early signs of reading delays, helping them build confidence, develop critical literacy skills, and make meaningful progress in school.
